I've lived in the dorms for the past two years. My current roommate and a friend from high school want me to move in with them, and it would cost me roughly around $250 for rent, plus whatever my car payments are. My other option is to live with my parents, who just moved to the city where I attend school. I also have an 11 year old brother who wants me to live at home. My parents have said that they understand I'm in college and that I need my free time and space. They've agreed to let me go out to parties and hang out with my friends all I want as long as I take 1 day out of the month to spend solely with my brother and parents (and of course perform around the house chores). Does this seem like a fair tradeoff, or would living in an apt be better? Living at home would cut out the $250 I need for rent, plus the other expenses (groceries, food on campus, etc...). Help!
Live at home for college or apartment?
I could not have gone home after having been away for two years, regardless of how much it might have saved me. I would probably have had fewer responsibilities to the family than you seem to, but once I moved out, I needed to feel independent. $250 seems so great for rent - It would be four times that here - that I wouldn't hesitate to move out with your friends.

Live at home for college or apartment?
Think about it this way.... what do you have to lose if you go home? Nothing! What do you have to lose if you get an apartment? $1250 in rent per semester (5 months) plus the cost of groceries. Additionally, some apartments only have 12 month leases and others charge more money for short-term leases.
