Xbox Live Gold Membership Please Help?
If you only have one xbox, I would say get only ONE live membership. The two of you would then be able to share it and both of you can play online (both at the same time and individually). If achievements are important to both of you (or if you have two xboxs and two tvs) then go with two memberships, as only the person who has the account will receive achievement points, and it would eliminate the split screen.

You need 1 gold membership per account!!!
If you want to do 2 player online (split scn) you can sign in as a guest (only need 1 account)

Unfortunately its one per user profile.

As others have said its 1 Live Gold Membership per user. Some games do allow 2 players to play online on the same console, i.e split screen but online. I would recommend you both make a silver account which is free (you can still download demo's etc on silver). Depending on how much you are likely to play online, you can buy a 3 month gold membership for around 鎷?4.99 or a full 12 months is 鎷?9 (definatley buy membership scratch cards for Live from Game/Gamestation etc, dont use a credit or debit card to pay for xbox live, they will bill you every year for it even if you dont use it very often, plus its a pain getting them to take any cards off your account so you can use pre pay cards!!!!)
Also it might be worth buying some microsoft points for the marketplace, i dont know whether you know or not, but you need these points to buy some content for your games i.e extra maps, cars, xbox live arcade games, some content is free though such as game trailers. You get 2100 points for 鎷?7.50. Average full xbox live arcade games cost between 400 - 800 points each.
Hope that helps!

If you play on xbox live together then you only need one because one of you can share the paid account but if you plan on using them seperately then you need to pay for two accounts. I recommend just sharing the one account even if you do not play together because it will not affect save games only your online skill level and gamerscore which cannot go down!

You will need to buy one live card for every one profile. But that doesn't mean that only one live profile is allowed on a xbox 360 you can have as many gold profiles as you want up to 4 being used at the same time but the first player will have all the control such as the dashboard and game setup. And if you are wondering you can have all of the 4 players online and talking as long as you have four controls (4 profile to 4 controllers) and obviously you also have to have one mic for every controller. And you can get achievements for online play like in Gears of War, when you play a ranked match you get an achievement for using a particular weapon over and over. I don't really rememeber if you have to give your number but you do have to link your xbox live account to an e-mail address and microsoft will send you newsletter and info about upcoming events and tell you if the is going to the sever is going to be update and live is going to be down, i have only seen that once in the last year but they will also send you a xbox live message. and you have to give your age so they can restrict your usage for you age that the parents setup. such as timers that monitor how long you are allowed to play each day. Or so they can restrict others from seeing you if you are under 18 for also obvious reason like protection from predators.
I hope this helps and if you have any more question just send an e-mail
