I live in america, some of my family is moving to cali and I Want to be close to them. I'm 18, but more streetwise than you might might imagine. I was thinking of living in tijuana for the cheap rent till and working in san diego (I am aware of the commute time) till I find an affordable place in san diego. What are the REAL inherent dangers of living there? please no horror stories you've heard happened to a friend of a friend of a friend. Personal ones would be good though horror or not. What are some good ideas if i want to keep safe living in tijuana? do i need any special permission from the mexican government to live there? How do san diego employers look on potential employees taking up residence in T.J.?
thanks

I agree with Usinf. Look for someplace safe instead of someplace exciting. Don't go to bars or hang around other sleezy places, just like if you were in America. Try to be nice to your neighbors and get to know them.

OK I lived in TJ and commuted back and forth for a long time. I think that one of the things that will help you out is a good command of the spanish language, basics helps. No real dangers as long as you stick to places that look nice. Near the border is good but not so close. Anywhere away from Downtown TJ will be best. There is places like La Mesa (I know San Diego has a La Mesa too) is a good place with cheap rents. As long as you stick to your area it is good.
I would suggest you go with someone when you are house hunting, when you do move in walk around your area during the day, get to know your area, find where all the mom and pop stores are at, they will be the most helpful. Besides that good luck.

I really wouldn't suggest it. The police have more power than they need. If you are going to do it, I suggest you give your employers your family's address in America instead of Tijuana. I believe that you are more likely to be hired, why hire someone down there when you can hire someone living in the States.
