Xbox live problems. Help! I've been waiting way too long for Halo 3 to put up with this now!?

I just bought halo 3, and of course i want to play multiplayer on xbox live. Only problem is, I can't get on F'ing Xbox live! It keeps saying "xbox live has an update for your system. You must download update to sign on to xbox live" or something like that, but when I try to download the update it says "can not download update...test your system connection". When i test my system connections, it says that everything is ok, except when it gets to the portion of the test for xbox live,it says "failed", but it won't tell me why. I've made sure that everything is plugged in tight, and everything is hooked up just like it always has been...anybody have any ideas? You'll be my hero if you solve my problem. I've been waiting way too long for some capture the flag for this crap to be happening now!

I had the same f'in problem for like 30 minutes.

Reset your network connection settings to factory.

Turn off the console. Unplug wireless adapter or network cable from the 360. Plug it back in, boot up the 360...edit your network settings so that it's connected to your home again.

This time around the update should download.

I just called 18004myxbox(1800-46992-69) and actually got a XBOX Live agent. They told me that they are experiencing technical problems and they may not be resolved for another 2-3 hours. F#$@#%$!!!!!
